TYS “Dynamite” Was a Blast

Dec 01 2005

Topanga Messenger Article – By Holly Alsop

On Friday and Sunday, November, 18 and 20, 17 members of Topanga Youth Services performed a stage version of hit movie “Napoleon Dynamite.” The production was presented entirely by the members of Topanga Youth Services. For those of you who have not seen this popular film, it is a sweet coming-of-age story set in present day Idaho with many eclectic and funny characters. Audiences agreed that Topanga Youth Services production was fun, low-tech and an event not to be missed.

Some memorable moments included the classic “Napoleon Dynamite” dance and unexpected guest stars like Indigo the Dog and Henny the Hen. The entire movie dialogue was performed on the hand-painted sets.

Many of our 6th through 12th graders are split up after Topanga Elementary to attend different schools. Topanga Youth Services was created to “bridge the gap.” In putting on this production, the youth of Topanga and their parents enjoyed the “gathering of individuals” through the many rehearsals and set design parties as well as at the wrap party held on November 26. Expect another upcoming production written and performed by Topanga Youth Services this spring 2006.

To keep the momentum going we need you to support and fund TYS, through time and donations. For more information visit our website at www.topangayouthservice.com or call (310) 502-3358.
